What It Defines
The car you see in these photographs is the Mercedes-Benz Edition C, basically, a limited edition run of the C-class launched to celebrate the sale of 10 million units of the car around the world. The brand has sold more than 2.3 million units of the current fourth-generation model series alone since it was unveiled globally in 2007. The Edition C is essentially a C220 CDI with some special features exclusive to this car.
There are no mechanical changes and power comes from a 2143cc turbo-diesel engine good for 167bhp mated to a seven-speed automatic gearbox. Out on the street, the C-class has more than enough punch to satisfy. The delivery of torque and power is strong and the C rushes forward with good energy. And flat-out acceleration, despite this C having 34 horses less than the Mercedes C250 CDI, is strong and you can expect the 220 CDI to be only around a second or so off the more powerful 250 in a drag race. Even the power delivery is smooth and linear. It feels a tad more refined than the C250 CDI as well. The rest of the car remains the same and you get fantastic build quality, all of Merc’s safety systems and a very supple ride.
